FAQs
Your existing lender will usually offer you a ‘product switch’ but before you do this it’s worth comparing it against what you could get from other lenders. We can compare these options for you and talk you through the pros and cons of remortgaging.
You should review your mortgage every time your mortgage product expires, ideally 3-4 months before. If rates have dropped significantly then it could be worth reviewing your mortgage earlier.
Start looking at remortgaging 3-4 months before the end of your mortgage deal. This allows plenty of time to find a new deal and for your solicitor to arrange the switch on your preferred day.
Often remortgages are offered with little or no fees for arranging the switch, but for a full breakdown on the fees that could apply please see our remortgaging guide.
Using the free legal service can work well but it doesn’t always provide a consistent level of service. Sometimes lenders offer a cash alternative, where cashback is available. This is our preferred option because it allows us to offer you a consistently good service from our preferred solicitor partner.
A remortgage can be arranged and completed in as little as a couple of weeks. But we like to allow a couple of months, so you have plenty of time to gather any paperwork you require.
Yes, but lenders often limit their maximum loan to value and will carefully look at your situation. We’ll advise you carefully on this as it is not always a good idea to add unsecured borrowing to your mortgage.
“Emma at Dupree was amazing! I found her to be helpful and supportive throughout the process of remortgaging. She was able to advise on the right mortgage for our needs and it was all done quickly and with ease.”
