HELP TO BUY REPAYMENT

Repay your Help to Buy loan, the easy way

Interest on your equity loan starts in year six and goes up every April. We can arrange your new mortgage, line up a RICS valuation and a specialist solicitor through our trusted partners, and help with the Help to Buy paperwork, so you can stop paying it.

See your costs on screen in under a minute, or talk it all through with an adviser.

Beat the rising interest

Help to Buy interest goes up every year until the loan is repaid. Repay in full and it stops.

One adviser, start to finish

Your adviser handles your mortgage and keeps the valuer and solicitor on track, so nothing slips.

£0 mortgage advice fee

We don’t charge you a fee for mortgage advice. We’re paid commission by the lender if you take out a mortgage through us. Valuation and solicitor fees are separate, and you see them upfront.

Your Help to Buy loan costs more every year

The equity loan was interest-free for five years. After that you pay interest every month until it’s repaid. And you repay a share of what your home is worth now, not what you borrowed.

  • Year 6: interest starts at 1.75% of the amount you borrowed, paid monthly.
  • Every April after: the rate rises by RPI + 1% for loans taken 2013–2021, or CPI + 2% for loans taken 2021–2023. It rises even when inflation is zero.
  • Paying interest doesn’t reduce the loan. You still owe the full amount until you repay it.
  • If your home has gone up in value, so has your loan. Borrowed 20%? You repay 20% of today’s value.

Don't get caught by the 3-month clock

Your RICS valuation only lasts 3 months. If it runs out before everything completes, you may need to pay for an extension. So we agree your mortgage plan first, then book the valuation and instruct the solicitor when everything is ready to move, and we chase each step.

Valuation services are provided by e.surv Chartered Surveyors and legal services by Threemo Legal Services Limited, our selected partners. Neither Dupree & Co nor PRIMIS Mortgage Network is responsible for the service they provide.

Remortgage with a new lender. Move to a new deal and borrow enough to clear the equity loan.Still on a deal with your current lender? An early repayment charge may apply if you leave it before it ends. Your adviser will check this for you.
Borrow more from your current lender. A further advance on your existing mortgage.
Use your savings. Repay some or all of it without changing your mortgage.
Repay part of it. Pay off at least 10% of your home’s value at a time, and reduce the interest.

Plus a Help to Buy admin fee of £0–£200, depending on your scheme (£200 in England). We don't charge a fee for mortgage advice; we're paid commission by the lender. Valuation is paid to e.surv when booked; solicitor fees are paid to Threemo.

Solicitor fees can go up. This happens most often where a property management company is involved and the original terms of the agreement are no longer acceptable to lenders. That needs extra legal work that isn't in this quote.

Your lender may charge a fee too. If you're remortgaging or taking a further advance, the mortgage lender may charge a product fee. This varies by lender and product.
